Steve
Chapron
Steve was born and raised in Farmington and has always enjoyed the constantly changing weather of New England.
One of his earliest memories was of the Blizzard of 1983 which began his interest in weather. He remembers how the snow from that storm was taller than he was!
His interest in weather really began to increase after the state was battered by Hurricane Gloria in 1985 and he saw the mess it made out of his neighborhood.
The interest and learning about weather continued to grow through high school when he began taking flying lessons and found the weather section to be one of the most interesting parts of the flying coursework. It was then he decided to major in meteorology in college. This was supplemented through high school and college internships with the New England Weather Service formerly based at WFSB followed by WTIC radio.
Steve has been with the WTIC Weather Center since the fall of 2000 doing weekend radio weather for WTIC AM/FM, WRCH, WZMX as well as WZBG in Litchfield. Currently, Steve works weekend mornings for the radio side and helps fill in during weekdays on either radio or running the weather graphics seen on the Fox 61 Morning Show. In addition to this he also works full time designing IT systems used in the insurance industry.
He earned a BS in Meteorology from Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, VT and a Masters in Business and Finance from the University of Hartford.
